This Chrome extensions lets you open Google Drive files in compatible Mac apps

Google on Wednesday announced a new extension for the Chrome browser which makes it easy to open files stored in your Google Drive in compatible applications on your Mac or Windows PC.

“This includes apps like advanced image and video editing software, accounting and tax programs, or 3D animation and design tools,” wrote the search firm in a blog post.

Simply right-click on the file from Google Drive and select “Open with” to see a list of applications on your computer that can open it. The extension is called “Application Launcher for Drive” and you can download it for free in the Chrome Web Store.... Read the rest of this post here

128 GB iPhone 6 Plus 全面回收純屬謠言

昨日，台灣某些媒體不經查證直接引用韓國媒體報導，稱 iPhone 6 Plus 記憶體出包蘋果恐全面回收，經國外媒體向蘋果求證召回計劃完全是虛假。只是在 iPhone 6 Plus 更改內部設計的炒作新聞後，另一個被有心人士刻意渲染的誇大新聞。

整個事件起因於某位用戶在蘋果支援論壇報怨，表示自己將 iPhone 5s 的備份回復到 AT&T 版的 128GB iPhone 6 Plus 後，經常發生系統崩潰和重啟。在蘋果官方支援論壇上回報此崩潰的帖子只有 159 個回覆，其中很多來自同一個人，這些用戶在 iPhone 上安裝了 500~1000 個 APP 後發生系統崩潰。經調查此崩潰問題非常罕見，牽連到 NAND 閃存問題的猜測也完全不正確。

Aeternum: the best looking Apple Watch UI SpringBoard replacement for iPhone

I just got my hands on the latest jailbreak tweak to take advantage of Lucas Mendes’ open source Apple Watch UI for the iPhone. It’s called Aeternum, which means eternity in latin, and it’s from the developer that brought us iRealSMS and iTouchSecure. In other words, it’s from a quality well-known developer.

I’ve tried a few tweaks that build upon Mendes’ code, but Aeternum is far and away the best looking and best functioning one thus far. Not only do you get the Apple Watch UI, but you get smooth animations, a dock, and the ability to rearrange app icons. It still has some ways to go, but it’s very promising. How to stop iPhoto from launching every time you plug your iPhone in

If there is one thing that I very much dislike in my workflows, it’s processes that automatically start without my consent or prior agreement. The latest culprit to date is iPhoto, which automatically launches every single time I plug my iPhone in my computer. Neato lets you jot quick notes directly from Notification Center

Neato is a new application that mostly consists of a Notification Center extension that lets you quickly jot down quick notes from anywhere on iOS. After installing the free app from the App Store, simply add the Notification Center extension to start typing in notes from the Lock screen, Home screen, or directly from within an application.

iOS 8.1.1 apparently kills Pangu jailbreak

The cat and mouse game between Apple and the jailbreak community is still very much happening, if an unconfirmed message from an apparent member of the Pangu Team is to be believed.

Weibo user Daniel_K4, who is apparently a member of the Pangu Team recently posted that iOS 8.1.1 beta that was released yesterday patches exploits used by the Pangu jailbreak, incapacitating the jailbreak process on devices that will be updated to the latest OS version once it is released to the public.... Office mobile apps will soon sync to Dropbox

Software giant Microsoft has partnered with Dropbox, a hot cloud-storage startup that Steve Jobs once wanted to buy for $800+ million, to give Office users across desktop, mobile and the web built-in access to Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in their Dropbox cloud storage, the company announced Tuesday.

Apple rumored to drop iPad mini development to focus on larger ‘iPad Pro’

Apple is dropping iPad mini development in order to focus its efforts on the so-called ‘iPad Pro,’ according to a sketchy new report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News this evening. The site claims that this year’s iPad mini 3 model will be the last for the 7.9-inch tablet line.

Such a move wouldn’t be surprising, as Apple gave little attention to the smaller iPad at last month’s event. It’s believed that the mini is far less popular than its larger sibling in terms of sales, and due to production costs and pricing, it provides much smaller profit margins....
