Apple 藍寶石廠破產, iPhone 6s / 7 設計隨時都要改

昨天 Apple 藍寶石供應商 GT Advanced Tech 突然宣佈破產。雖然公司會繼續運作，但無疑已不是一間健全的公司。究竟這次事件會如何影響 Apple 之後的產品?

消息指 GT Advanced Tech 原本和 Apple 的合約的確是主要負責生產 iPhone 6 / 6 Plus 的藍寶石螢幕，因為 GT 是唯一一間能夠生產出 iPhone 螢幕這麼大的優質藍寶石蓋。不過 Apple 最後決定不在新 iPhone 用藍寶石螢幕，結果 GT 就破產。

不過亦因為 GT 主要負責 iPhone 螢幕，所以破產並不會影響即將推出的 Apple Watch，或者 iPhone 相機鏡頭蓋和 Touch ID 面蓋。不過 Apple 原本為 iPhone 加上藍寶石螢幕的計劃就可能幻滅了，因為暫時沒有一間生產商能夠像 GT 那樣高質素。用了 GT 藍寶石螢幕的 iPhone 在跌撞測試表現特別出色。如果 GT 因為財政問題不能再幫 Apple 生產，Apple 也很難找到另一間。

iOS 8.1 beta 2 推出: iPhone 6 標榜的功能第一次現真身

Apple 上星期才推出 iOS 8.1 beta 1，今天就已經推出 iOS 8.1 beta 2。
iOS 8.1 第一個 beta 最明顯的改變是重新加入「相機膠卷」，以及一系列界面和功能小改變。這次 beta 2 主要是系統後台的改變，界面上沒有甚麼明顯不同。不過 iPhone 6 / 6 Plus 標榜的重要新功能 Apple Pay 就第一次出現。
在 Passbook app 裡面，加入了 Apple Pay 的首次設定畫面。不過由於功能還未正式啟動，所以暫時未能真正設定你的 Apple Pay 帳戶或加入信用卡。Apple 計劃在 10 月正式在美國推出 Apple Pay，現在看來很有可能會在下星期發佈會連同 iOS 8.1 公開推出。

Apple 錯估用戶喜好, 決定改變 iPhone 6 / 6 Plus 比例

根據最新統計已經大概知道兩台 iPhone 6 的驚人銷量，其中佔比較多的是 iPhone 6。不過其實 iPhone 6 Plus 的銷量增加比 iPhone 6 快一倍，只是供貨不足影響實際銷量。iPhone 6 Plus 的受歡迎程度超出 Apple 預計，所以現在開始新策略來迎合。
最新消息指 Apple 發現越來越多用戶選擇 iPhone 6 Plus，尤其是更多亞洲地區開售之後。所以 Apple 決定改變生產計劃，讓生產商減少 iPhone 6 的產量大約 300 – 400 萬台，轉移至 iPhone 6 Plus，希望舒緩 6 Plus 長期供不應求的情況。
不過如果你也正在等買 iPhone 6 Plus，可能還要等一陣子。因為生產線的改變需要好一段時間才能在零售供應反映，所以相信 iPhone 6 Plus 短期內供應依然明顯比 iPhone 6 少。

This silly keyboard lets you type using funky fonts

100 Fonts Keyboard for iOS 8 is not a new app but I just came across it earlier today while browsing the App Store. While it certainly isn’t groundbreaking, I found it to be different from the other keyboards we had seen so far so I thought I’d share it with you. Before we even get started, let’s clear things up. Google Chrome gains iPhone 6 support, ability to download and open files in Google Drive

The Internet giant Google on Tuesday issued a small update to its Chrome for iOS browser, adding better support for the “Retina HD” iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screens.

The free download also enables another interesting feature — the ability to download and open files directly in the Google Drive application, if installed on your device. Finally, this release includes customary bug fixes and stability improvements.

Square refreshes Cash for iPhone with Bluetooth money transfer ability

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey’s mobile payments startup, Square, on Tuesday issued a nice update to its free Cash for iPhone software which now allows you to transfer money via short-range Bluetooth networking using a new “Nearby Payments” feature.

This is in addition to the ability to send money via text message, email or mobile phone numbers (for free), a feature the startup added to the Cash app in late-August 2014. This release of Cash also features the ability to quickly approve or decline money requests with actionable push notifications and contains other improvements and bug fixes.

Barometer 讓你用 iPhone 6 量身高和物體高度

美國 Apple 公司最新推出的 iPhone 6 和 iPhone 6 Plus 手機，除了內建 Touch ID、三軸陀螺儀、加速感應器、接近感應器和環境光度感應器外，又新加入了氣壓感應器 (Barometer)，能藉由感應大氣壓力，來判斷你的相對海拔高度位置。

開發人員 Peter Breitling 利用 iPhone 6 的氣壓感應器設計了一款「Barometer for iPhone 6 / 6 Plus」App，直接調用 iPhone 6 裡面的氣壓計數器， 除了能用來量身高外，還可來測量物體、所在樓層和爬山時的高度。

iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 5s 4G LTE 網路速度測試

美國 Apple 公司最新推出的 iPhone 6 手機，支援更先進的無線網路技術，提供 LTE 波段多達 20 種和支援 VoLTE。國外媒體在對 iPhone 6 支援 802.11ac Wi-Fi 速度進行測試後，再對 iPhone 6 和 iPhone 5S 的 4G LTE 網路速度進行了測試，看看是否如 Apple 所說擁有更快的下載速度。

Apple software snafus may have contributed to slow iOS 8 adoption

Almost three weeks since it has launched, iOS 8 adoption seems to have slowed down. In fact, when compared to iOS 7 adoption rate, adoption for Apple's newest mobile operating system trails that of its predecessor. With the launch of iOS 8, Apple had experienced a number of glitches, along with the large file size for the upgrade, that may have deterred early adopters.

At present, the Apple developer page lists that only 47 percent of devices have iOS 8 installed on them, which is the same percentage currently as iOS 7 devices.



Some issues with iOS 8 include a large file size that may have prevented people with limited available storage from being able to download and install the OS directly on their devices. Instead, iTunes would be required and that may be a big enough deterrence for some. Additionally, subsequent iOS 8 updates have introduced additional bugs that may not sit well with users who have a stable iOS 7 device, including loss of connectivity, iCloud problems, and slow WiFi speeds along with battery drain. Some users may be waiting for Apple to iron out all the kinks before making the plunge themselves.

And then there's the situation of upgrade or update. With iPhone 5 users now qualified for a two-year hardware upgrade, many may be avoiding the update hassle while they wait for Apple to ship their new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.
